The Trans Atlantic Mystery (1932) American Short Mystery Movie The Trans-Atlantic Mystery is a 1932 American short mystery movie directed by Joseph Henabery and written by S.S. Van Dine. It is the twelfth and final installment in a series of short films featuring the characters of criminologist Dr. Amos Crabtree (played by Donald Meek) and Inspector Carr (played by John Hamilton). While in London, the notorious Stanhope diamonds are stolen. Jewel thief Miller schemes to smuggle them into New York, but his partner Waite (Ray Collins) turns on him, killing Miller and stealing both the gems and his plan. Disguised as Miller, Waite boards the luxury ocean liner Hellenic bound for New York.
